A customer requested ability to create reminders automatically each time an issue is created. This can be achieved with a workflow post function. Since assignee is not available at issue creation we need another way to select target of reminder. We also need ability to select a custom field for relative reminders like due date.
Very interested in this feature. Even if the post function doesn't work for the create transition, having one that we can use at any other transition to automatically create a reminder as part of a transition would be very useful.
You may be already aware of it but we have "Create Reminder" custom field. If you add it to workflow transition screens, user's may create a reminder as a part of issue transition. It is an alternative for post functions and I think it is more useful because in a post function it is not clear who will be the target of reminder, reminder summary, reminder trigger date. Reminder custom field allows all of these to be specified by the person performing issue transition.
Yup. I saw that.
But are big into automation (partially for compliance and audit reasons). We don't want to give the user the option. We want to make sure the reminder is created.
ie, we have a workflow to grant as user access to a controlled resource for a week. we want the reminder to be automatically created to remove the access after the week has passed.
The post function ought to be able to set the fields that you would want set in the reminder.
Another option that might work would be is we have a validator that requires a reminder be set. So the user is forced to fill out the "create reminder" custom field in the transition screen. That would at least work as a control to make sure that the reminder is created if we cant automatically create it. I'll have to test if the custom field can be used that way.
